Hello and welcome to my Blog! Can you ever get enough of those cute little pickups and flowers? I can't! This card makes use of a ready-made chipboard tag that I found at Michaels. With a few minor, customized adjustments, I was able to incorporate that tag into a really cute birthday card with a coordinating lined envelope.

Scroll down for more details and dimensions.

View the "how-to" video here or click on the image below.

Supplies:

  • 5" x 7" card and envelope

  • 6" x 6" designer paper (Echo Park "Flower Market" 6x6 paper pad)

  • Coordinating contrast paper for border(s)

  • Craftsmart chipboard tags (Michaels Store)

  • Cuttlebug "Organic Flourish" embossing strip

  • Impression Obsession "Happy Birthday" die

  • Sizzix Texture Boutique (embossing)

  • Sizzix Big Shot (die cutting)

  • Score tape

Card directions and dimensions:

  • Start with a 5" x 7" card base

    • Cut a piece of double-sided designer paper to 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" (you can achieve the 6 1/2" length from a 6" x 6" paper pad by including the "zip strip" at the top of the pad; some papers will have a hole in the zip strip, but that is okay because the contrasting border piece will cover the hole. See the video for more information about this little trick).

    • Cut at 3" along the 6 1/2" length of the designer paper (this will result in a 3" piece and a 3 1/2" piece)

    • The piece of designer paper with the zip strip hole in it will need to go on the bottom half of your card; the contrasting border strip will cover the hole

    • Cut two pieces of contrasting, solid color paper for border strips. One will be used as a border between the two pieces of designer paper and one will be used along the top of the chipboard tag.

  • Adhere designer papers to front of card, leaving a 1/4" border around edges

  • Emboss the contrasting, solid paper border pieces with your choice of embossing folder or strip

    • Adhere embossed border to card front to cover the zip strip hole and the seam between the designer paper pieces

    • Adhere 2nd piece of embossed border to the top of the chipboard tag

    • Punch a hole through tag border

    • Add ribbon through tag hole

    • Use score tape or other strong adhesive to attach chipboard tag to card front

  • Die cut "Happy Birthday" and adhere to chipboard tag
