Hey there, let's talk layers. Did you know that you can take a simple focal point over the edge just by adding layers behind the image? Yep, it's true! For the Floral card example, I used Dotted Scallop Rectangle dies (Elizabeth Crafts) and for the Dragonfly card (below), I used Rectangle Basics (Memory Box 30086) to create my mat layers, but you should use whatever you have. You don't have to use dies to get the same effect. You could simply use a paper cutter and incrementally create your layers by increasing the dimensions of each mat by 1/4" or you could use Cricut images like Elegant Edges or Basic Shapes.
For the card samples in this tutorial, I started with a 4.25" x 5" card base, then added multiple mat layers in varied colors to set off the main focal point. That's it! Easy peasy. Let your imagination go and mix it up with patterned papers and/or solids; whatever sets off your focal point to be the star of the show!
